Assistant City Manager Selected
Greensboro City Manager Ed Kitchen today (Wednesday) announced the selection of Mitchell Johnson for the position of Assistant City Manager. Johnson, who currently serves as the City of Greensboro's Director of Technology and Facilities Management Department will begin the position on March 1.
Johnson began his career with the City of Greensboro on November 1, 1984 as a computer programmer. He was promoted to manager of Technical Systems, then to Assistant to the Director. In his current position as Technology and Facilities Director, Johnson is responsible for all City facilities, construction, technology and information systems, fleet maintenance operations, telecommunications systems, space planning and franchise agreements.
Johnson attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and earned a BS in physics in 1982. He is a native North Carolinian and is originally from Asheville.
In making his selection, Kitchen said, "Mitchell Johnson has broad exposure to and has worked directly with every part of the City organization in his previous jobs. In the last several years, he has taken the lead role in a complete transformation of the City's use of technology across all departments. Our efficiency and responsiveness as an organization are markedly improved as a result. Mitch has a unique level of expertise, energy and enthusiasm. These traits, coupled with his operations experience, should make him a great addition to the team in the Manager's Office."
Johnson stated that, "I have always had the greatest respect for this organization and its employees and am thrilled to be asked to help lead us into the future."
With the addition of Johnson, the City Manager's Office will be fully staffed. Johnson's starting salary will be $105,689.
