Assistant Chief of Police Accepted into Harvard Program
Assistant Chief of Police David A. Wray, has been accepted into the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government 2000 Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government. This program is Harvard University's major executive training course for senior level executives from state, municipal and county governments, and focuses on helping officials assess the challenges involved in managing the current results-driven government agency.
The academic curriculum is centered around the case method pioneered at Harvard, which focuses on review and discussion of actual problems. The program itself focuses on developing new conceptual frameworks for addressing policy issues, exploring the interrelationship between citizens and government, examining the ethical and professional responsibilities of leadership, and exchanging ideas with experienced faculty and participants from diverse backgrounds.
Wray began his career with the city as a police officer in 1981. He was promoted through the ranks and has served as Assistant Chief of Police since 1998. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the North Carolina Police Executives Association and is a former president of the NC Law Enforcement Accreditation Network. Wray received his BA in 1978 and his MPA in 1989, both from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
In addition to his acceptance into the program, Wray also received a $6000 John B. Pickett Fellowship to be applied to the cost of his tuition. The three week course begins June 11 and runs through June 30.
