Update on City of Greensboro Services
City of Greensboro crews are continuing cleanup efforts following yesterday (Thursday) morning's storm system. Their first priority is debris removal from major thoroughfares and from damaged property located in the northwest sections of Greensboro where the storm appears to have caused the worst damage.
City Manager Ed Kitchen asks citizens to be patient with the cleanup process. "While we have all available staff working on cleanup, the extent of storm damage in our community will require a few days of work before cleanup is complete." Kitchen noted that solid waste collection is being provided today. Friday's collection routes will be traveled and crews will then attempt to collect the rest of Thursday's route, which were not completed due to the storm. Normal city yard waste requirements have been temporarily lifted, however, solid waste officials urge citizens to keep yard waste as close to code as possible, by bagging yard waste in clear plastic bags, putting it in metal or plastic trash cans or bundling it in lengths of five feet or less. All yard waste should be put as close to the curb as possible, but not in the street, to ensure the quick and efficient collection of storm debris.
Approximately 80 intersections are still without traffic signals. Police are working to direct traffic or have placed signs at most of these locations. Police officials remind all citizens that state law requires all cars approaching an intersection without lights to come to a complete stop before proceeding.
Power was restored to the Osborne Wastewater Treatment Plant at 7:00pm last evening and the plant is operating normally.
