City Clean-Up Efforts Continue
Over 200 city employees continue to work at clearing debris from city streets left from yesterday's storm system. Crews from Environmental Services, Transportation, Parks & Recreation and Water Resources, as well as city employees from Winston-Salem and High Point are working together to clear and haul trees and limbs. They will work until 8 pm tonight and from 7 am until 8 pm on Saturday.
Normal city yard waste requirements will be waived for at least 30 days, to allow citizens to clear their yards of limbs and branches. Solid waste officials are encouraging citizens to keep yard waste as close to code as possible by bagging yard waste in clear plastic bags, putting it in metal or plastic trash cans, or bundling it in lengths of five feet or less. Storm debris that is bagged to code will be picked up on their regular solid waste collection day. Storm debris that is not up to code will be picked up as time permits. Due to the large volume of storm debris around the city, collection will be ongoing over the next few weeks.
The White Street landfill will remain open until 8 pm this evening and will be open from 7 am - 8 pm tomorrow to receive storm debris. The $10 landfill usage fee will be temporarily waived for all non-commercial pickup trucks or cars with storm debris.
To report downed trees, call Parks & Recreation Maintenance at 373-5866. This number will be staffed until 8 pm tonight and from 8 am until 8 pm tomorrow.
