City Storm Collection Update

City of Greensboro crews are working 10-hour shifts Monday through Saturday in order to clear yard debris from last Thursday's storm. All available city staff and trucks are in use and crews from Winston-Salem, High Point and Raleigh are assisting with the efforts. The City is also planning on hiring contractors to aid with clearing and hauling, but officials warn that it may take four weeks before all debris is collected.

Trash and recycling pickup are operating on a normal schedule. Citizens with yard debris that is bundled to meet code should leave it at the curb. Crews will attempt to collect the debris on their normal collection day however, work is being slowed by the large volumes. City crews will try to return to collect bundled debris by Saturday.

The White Street landfill received 1,731 tons of yard debris over the weekend. New records were set for the number of trucks visiting the landfill on Friday and Saturday. 1,147 trucks came on Friday and 816 trucks on Saturday. Normal truck traffic on Saturday is 250 trucks. The landfill will remain open Monday through Saturday from 7 am to 8 pm until further notice. The $10 fee will also be waived until further notice for all non-commercial vehicles with yard debris.
