Notice of Untreated Sewage Discharge

On June 19, for approximately two hours, untreated wastewater from the City of Greensboro’s sanitary sewer system was discharged to surface waters. The wastewater entered the North Buffalo Creek, a tributary of the Cape Fear River Basin. The discharge was a result of flooding of the sewer system in several places. Making specific estimates of the volume discharged is difficult, however, at this time the City is estimating 100,000 gallons of sanitary sewage was mixed with those floodwaters. The flooding is the result of a 100 year frequency rain event and no remedy has been determined to prevent recurrence.

This notice was issued in compliance with North Carolina General Statutes Article 21, Chapter 143.215.C.
