Greensboro Reports Clean, Safe Drinking Water

The City of Greensboro's annual Water Quality Report will be delivered to water customers this week. As part of the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act amendments, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandates that all municipal water systems provide a Consumer Confidence Report to their customers for calendar year 1999 by July 1, 2000. The purpose of the report is to help Greensboro's customers be informed consumers about their drinking water. Allan Williams, Water Resources Director, explains "Greensboro's water is regularly tested and monitored by our highly skilled water treatment professionals. Our employees work around the clock to provide top quality water to every tap. We have continually met or exceeded all federal and state drinking water standards."

Greensboro's report identifies source water, discusses treatment methods and lists information about detected contaminants. Jim Moorefield, Water Quality Manager, states "We have always been committed to providing our customers with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. We're pleased to report that our testing shows the excellent quality of our water, and we are very proud to announce that our water system had no violations".

Citizens who have questions about Greensboro's Water Quality Report may contact Jim Moorefield, Water Quality Manager, at 373-5855 or Doug Robbins, Laboratory Supervisor, at 375-2227. Citizens who wish to have public input regarding Water Quality issues may attend Greensboro City Council meetings, held the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Melvin Municipal Office Building, 300 W. Washington Street.
