Historical Museum Exhibits to Reopen on Dolley Madison’s Birthday
We are pleased to announce that a large portion of the Greensboro Historical Museum’s exhibits will reopen on Sunday, May 20.
Closed since last summer to allow for installation of new heating and air conditioning systems, galleries reopening on May 20 include those featuring First Lady Dolley Madison, author O. Henry, 1960 Greensboro Sit-Ins, Piedmont furniture, and historic room interiors. First Presbyterian Church’s adjacent historic cemetery will once again be accessible through the museum building. The reopening has been timed to coincide with the birthday of First Lady Dolley Madison, who was born on May 20, 1768 near today’s Guilford College, and will include refreshments for all and hands-on fun for youngsters.
The Greensboro Historical Museum is located downtown at the intersection of Summit Ave. and Lindsay St. Admission is free, and two museum lots offer free parking for visitors. For more information, call (336) 373-2043 or visit www.greensborohistory.org.
