Safelight Piedmont Program Adds Four More Cameras
The SafeLight Piedmont program has installed four additional safelight cameras at the following intersections:
- Randleman Road at Florida Street
- Randleman Road at Creek Ridge Road
- Wendover Avenue at Church Street
- Holden Road at Wendover Avenue
SafeLight Piedmont is the red-light camera program operated by Peek Traffic Enforcement at various intersections throughout Greensboro and High Point. The goal of the program is to decrease the number of motorists who run red lights and to improve safety at signalized intersections.
Greensboro initially installed two safelight cameras at the intersections of Holden Road and Spring Garden Street, and Wendover Avenue and English Street in February 2001. SafeLight citations are sent to the registered owner of the vehicle, who is then responsible for paying or appealing the citation to the SafeLight office. The fine for running a SafeLight traffic signal is $50, an amount set by the NC General Assembly.
Future plans call for a total of 20 cameras to be installed in Greensboro. Signs will be posted at additional intersections, and their locations advertised.
