Summer Reading Offers Books for Seekers & Dreamers @ the Library
As the school year nears its end, the Greensboro Public Library begins its countdown to the Summer Reading Program! This year’s theme is "Books for Seekers & Dreamers @ the Library," and we are planning a galaxy of fun summer programs and events for young readers!
Last year, thousands of local children read books during their summer break from school, polishing their reading skills, earning prizes and enjoying fun programs at every GPL location! This year’s official launch of the Summer Reading Program occurs on Saturday, June 9, with special kick-off events planned throughout the library system during the first two weeks of June. The fun line-up of programs includes magicians, puppet shows, movies, storytellers, snacks, and special guests from throughout our community.
The goal of the program is to keep children reading during the summer months. Studies have shown that children who participate in summer reading programs can gain one reading level before the next school year begins.
Summer Reading registration will be offered at every GPL location on or after June 9. Reading logs and Summer Reading event calendars also will be available at each location. For more information, call 373-2046.
