Advisory Commission on Trees Appointed

As an initial recommendation by the committee that helped write the tree preservation ordinance, the Advisory Commission on Trees or ACT has been appointed and had an orientation meeting last night at the Cultural Arts Building.  The Commission will be charged with hearing appeals of the Tree Preservation Ordinance that was passed on October 17, 2001.  They will also be essential in developing program goals and policy for the urban forestry program.

"This group was designed to be a balanced commission with members of both the development community and the environmental community,” explained Melissa Begley the City Urban Forester.  "I am looking forward to working with this group."

The Commission members appointed were Nita Almon, Chuck Folds, Keith Francies, Gary Paul Kane, Ron Morris, Karen Neill, Randal Romie, Emilie Sandin and Mark Taylor. ACT will be meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at 4 pm in the City Council Chamber.  Their first business meeting will be held October 5.  For further information, contact Melissa Begley at 373-2150.
