Yard Debris Collection Codes Return to Normal Jan. 13, 2003 December 13, 2002
City yard waste codes will go back into effect on Monday, January 13, 2003. Until that time all yard waste should be put as close to the curb as possible, but not in the street, to ensure the quick and efficient collection of debris from last week’s ice storm. The City will enlist the assistance of private hauling companies to expedite the removal of storm debris. Contractors will be in Greensboro by next Tuesday, December 17 to continue the curbside removal process. Contractors will also be hired to remove debris in City parks. The estimated completion date for removal of all the storm debris is January 31, 2003.
Dale Wyrick, GDOT Operations Manager, states, “While City forces continue to make great progress on the storm debris cleanup, we are estimating the quantity of debris to be approximately 15,000 tons. Hiring a private hauling contractor will greatly assist with the expedition of debris removal.”
The storm debris contractor will begin the final collection cycle through the city on January 13, 2003. Residents that don’t have their debris out at that time will need to prepare it to standard yard waste collection code for pickup by the Solid Waste Department.
