Greensboro Fire Department Promotes Dee Ann Staley to Deputy Chief Position

City of Greensboro Fire Chief Johnny Teeters announced this morning (Thursday), that Assistant Chief Dee Ann Staley will be promoted to the position of Deputy Chief starting immediately. Staley was one of the first two females hired by the Greensboro Fire Department on July 1, 1978 as a Recruit Firefighter. She rose through the ranks serving as Captain and Battalion Chief until her promotion in April 1996 to her most recent position of Assistant Chief where her primary duties involved overseeing the Fire Department’s Planning and Research Section. She has also been instrumental in the growth of the department and the continuation of its National Certifications.

Staley is a graduate of High Point University and the University of Maryland, and earned Bachelor of Science degrees at both schools. She also received an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Guilford Technical Community College. Her position will be Deputy Chief of Administrative Services, and she will supervise the Fire Prevention, Planning & Research and Administrative Sections. She joins two other Deputy Chiefs -- Brad Cox, who oversees the Emergency Services Division and Danny Shumate who oversees the Resource Management Division. Chief Teeters noted that Staley’s promotion is well-deserved.

"I could not think of a more qualified person for the position of Deputy Chief. Dee Ann’s strong work ethic, her professionalism and her ability to get things done make her perfectly suited to successfully handle the duties of Deputy Chief. I look forward to having Dee Ann on board as the department moves into 2003."
