City Network Outage to Affect GPL
January 17, 2003

Internet service at all branches of the Greensboro Public Library will be unavailable this weekend as the City of Greensboro installs new equipment for a number of City facilities.

Public computers at Central Library are not expected to be affected by the outage. Customers at branch libraries will still be able to use public computers for word processing or other Windows-based activities. However, customers are encouraged to call ahead to their branch to determine the level of computer service available.

The outage will also affect the Library’s internal computer system, which maintains customer records and information about the Library’s collections. Branch library customers will be able to check out books, but may be unable to place holds, renew materials or search the Library’s catalog without staff assistance. Central Library customers are expected to be able to access their records and the catalog from the Library’s public computers.

Remote access to the Library’s website will be available, but users may experience some delays.
