Storm Debris Pickup on Schedule - Yard Waste Codes Now in Effect

More than 10,000 tons of storm debris have already been cleared from streets and neighborhoods by contractors hired by the City of Greensboro for storm debris removal resulting from the February 27 ice storm. The collection process is on schedule and will have the first round of pickup completed by April 30, 2003. One final pass through the city will be made after April 30 for collection of any remaining storm debris that was placed at the curb before March 17.

Tipping fees at the landfill have been waived for city residential homeowners who bring their own storm debris to the landfill by April 30. Normal tipping fees will apply for commercial debris.

Yard waste generated after March 17 must be prepared to code. All yard waste should be placed in containers that are no larger than 32 gallons and no heavier than 50 pounds, placed in clear plastic bags no heavier than 50 pounds, or tied in bundles not more than 5 feet long and no heavier than 50 pounds.
