National Peace Officers' Week Activities
The public is invited to the Greensboro Police Department's Annual Awards Program on Thursday, May 15, 2003, at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, 4800 W Friendly Avenue, at 2 pm in the afternoon. Employees, citizens, civic groups and local businesses that have provided exemplary service to the community during the year will be recognized.
On Friday, May 16, 2003 a Law Enforcement Memorial Service will be held at the Phill G McDonald Governmental Plaza at noon (rain location will be the City Council Chambers). The Service will include a roll call to honor all law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty while employed by the Greensboro Police Department, High Point Police Department, Gibsonville Police Department, Guilford County Sheriff's Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Troop D.
The Ceremony will also include remarks by Assistant Chief Anthony L. Scales, placing of a Memorial Wreath at the permanent monument on the Plaza to honor the 21 officers killed in the line of duty, a 21-gun salute, singing of the National Anthem and the playing of taps.
