Hurricane Isabel has Minimal Impact for Greensboro

City of Greensboro Police and Fire personnel report few problems as a result of Hurricane Isabel today.  City services have operated on normal schedules throughout the day and emergency calls to police and fire have been minimal.

An isolated power outage was reported at the Friendly Avenue and Holden Road area around 4 pm.  Police and fire officials are on the scene and Duke Power is working to restore power.

Police Captain Bill Ingold reports that city emergency services personnel have monitored the situation throughout the day and will continue to do so until around 11 pm when weather forecasts predict the storm will weaken. 

Nineteen Greensboro firefighters are at the coast waiting to assist as needed in the areas of urban search and rescue, hazardous materials and special operations for the Beaufort/Cedar Island area.

The Central Carolina Fair, taking place at the Greensboro Coliseum has been cancelled for this evening.  The Fair will reopen Friday at its normal time of 5:00pm and run through the weekend. Fair organizers are offering a special "Farewell to Isabel" promotion on Sunday, September 21 with free admission and unlimited ride wristbands available at the special price of $10.00. Gates open at 1 pm on Sunday.

Also, the Charles B. Aycock Neighborhood Planning meeting scheduled for tonight at 7 pm at St. Leo’s Place Church, 805 Sullivan Street, has been cancelled.  The meeting has been rescheduled for Sunday, September 21 from 6 to 8 pm in St. Leo’s Place Community Room.
