Governor Easley Appoints City Engineering & Inspections Director to NC Building Code Council 

Governor Mike Easley has appointed Engineering & Inspections Director Butch Simmons to the North Carolina Building Code Council.  The Council prepares and adopts criteria in accordance with the North Carolina building code.   All seventeen members are appointed by the governor and serve on the Council for six-year terms.

Simmons has served as Engineering & Inspections Director since April 2003.  He served as Acting Director since 2001 and prior to that, as Manager of Building Inspections. He joined the City in 1975 as a Building Inspector.

Simmons is well recognized in his field and has the following professional affiliations: North Carolina Building Inspectors Association (Immediate Past President, Board of Directors, Vice President, President); North Carolina Building Inspectors Association, 1975; International Building Code Congress, 1984 – Present; current Chair of Building Code Fire Safety Committee; Past President, Board of Directors, North Carolina Building Inspectors Association.

His honors include: Edison Hubert Johnson Award, four-time recipient of Distinguished Service Award, and Building Inspector of the Year.  Simmons is certified as a North Carolina State Level III Building Inspector, a North Carolina State General Contractor, and a South Carolina State General Contractor.
