Greensboro Cultural Center Has New Tenant
Very Special Arts (VSA), an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts for people with disabilities, will soon move its North Carolina operations into the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 North Davie Street. VSA NC will utilize the space for their statewide offices, an art gallery and performance space for music, dance and drama. The organization also plans to begin a local and statewide programming network aimed at giving special populations a place that represents and showcases their work and provides educational forums. VSA NC will move into the space formerly held by the African American Atelier. The Atelier will move its gallery into a current vacant space in the Center, which will provide them with more square footage for office and exhibit operations, allowing them the opportunity to host more varied exhibits showcasing artistic works and contributions of local, regional and national African American artists.
The Cultural Center Council advertised the available space in September and made determinations of space allocation for VSA NC and the African American Atelier. Mel Swann, Chair of the Council noted that VSA provides a positive addition to the other arts organizations already located at the Greensboro Cultural Center. “We’re excited to offer the Atelier the opportunity to grow and expand their current programs in a larger space and to have VSA as a new tenant in the Cultural Center. We look forward to seeing this dynamic facility continue to flourish as a vibrant center of our city’s arts community.”
Over fifteen arts organizations are located in the Greensboro Cultural Center including City Arts, Greensboro Artists’ League, Green Hill Center for NC Art, Guilford Native American Gallery, Center for Creative Arts, United Arts Council, Greensboro Ballet, Community Theater of Greensboro, Eastern Music Festival and the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.
