Historical Museum Director Selected

Greensboro Public Library Director Sandy Neerman has announced the selection of Fred W. Goss as the new director of the Greensboro Historical Museum. Goss will replace Bill Moore, who is set to retire in January 2004 after serving in that capacity since 1963. Goss will begin working at the Museum on January 15, 2004.

Goss, of Grand Island, Nebraska, will bring to the position more than 10 years in the museum and cultural resources field, including a stint as the chief executive officer of the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island and another as the assistant director of the Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita, Kansas.

"Fred Goss is enthusiastic about Greensboro and the community, and we feel he is someone who is very aligned with the City of Greensboro's core values, vision and mission," said Ms. Neerman. "He will build on the strengths of the Historical Museum and work in partnership with the community to bring the museum to the people; regardless of your age, culture or background, you will find the Historical Museum an exciting place to visit."

Goss has a master's degree in historical administration from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill., and a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 1998, he received the Kansas Museum Association Award for Excellence for Site Development.

Neerman said Goss had toured the Museum and met the staff. "He's very impressed with both," she said. "He is excited about our Museum and about partnering with the community."
