CITY OF GREENSBORO SELECTS FIELD OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

GREENSBORO, NC (October 10, 2006) – City Manager Mitchell Johnson today announced the selection of Dale Wyrick as Director of the Field Operations Department. Wyrick has served as the Interim Director of the department since it was created in January 2006.

Wyrick has worked for the City since 1994. Prior to becoming Interim Director of Field Operations, he served as Transportation Operations Manager for the Greensboro Department of Transportation. Wyrick has a BS in Civil Engineering from NC State University and is a registered professional engineer. He is a Streets Division Director of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Public Works Association, a role he’s held since 2003.

The Field Operations Department consists of solid waste collection, right of way and street maintenance services. It was created in early 2006 in order to provide greater flexibility and enhanced oversight of these important services thorough central management of the many resources included in these operations.

During his nine months as Interim Director, Wyrick has worked to improve customer service and to enhance operational efficiency in the department. As part of this effort, garbage collection in the downtown area has increased from four to six days per week.

In announcing his selection, City Manager Mitch Johnson noted that Wyrick has done an outstanding job as interim director. “After conducting a nationwide search, Dale’s impeccable track record and excellent leadership put him ahead of the other very impressive candidates and is a great choice for this position.”

Wyrick will officially begin his new position on October 16 at a salary of $102,667. He stated that, “I look forward to working with the 300-plus Field Operations employees to enhance and improve service to citizens.”
