Library Director Sandy Neerman Receives Award
The Public Library Association, a division of the American Library Association, has named Sandy Neerman the 2006 recipient of the Charlie Robinson Award. This award honors a public library director who, over a period of seven years, has been a risk taker, an innovator and a change agent in a public library system. The winner is selected based upon demonstrated success developing and implementing programs which are responsive to the needs of community residents. Charlie Robinson, the late director of the Baltimore County Library, championed change in the public library's concept of service and community inclusiveness.

This year the award appropriately recognizes Sandy Neerman, who has worked tirelessly to make the Greensboro Public Library System into an agency that insists on community inclusiveness. Sandy has also emphasized the importance of literacy, including emerging literacy in children's services. She has provided leadership in the art community to help make art a focal point in the Library. Under Sandy’s guidance, the Library has successfully collaborated with a wide variety of community agencies and organizations to enhance the benefits of library services.
