Museum Announces $75,000 Grant Award
GREENSBORO -- Lincoln Financial Group Foundation has awarded the Greensboro Historical Museum a grant totaling $75,000 to support a new exhibition titled "Greensboro: A Crossroads for Many Voices." This major renovation project, encompassing 10,000 square feet of space within the museum, will interpret Greensboro’s past using state-of-the-art exhibition techniques. Its focus will be on Greensboro as a distinctive and diverse crossroads of ideas, events, and people.
Lincoln Financial Group established a foundation in 1962 and created a Greensboro-based Charitable Contributions Committee in July 2006 after acquiring Jefferson Pilot Financial. “The museum board and staff are extremely excited about the generous gift by Lincoln Financial Group Foundation,” commented Director Fred Goss. “The foundation’s generosity will help provide an exhibit experience to help celebrate the history of Greensboro for years to come.”
To date, the Greensboro Historical Museum, Inc., a membership organization open to any interested person, has raised more than $1.7 million in support of exhibition renovations. This money will be used with $3.4 million approved by Greensboro voters in the November 2006 bond referendum. Voters approved another $1.8 million for revitalization of the museum’s National Register building.
The Greensboro Historical Museum, a facility of the City of Greensboro and a Smithsonian Affiliate, is located downtown at 130 Summit Avenue. Admission is free, and free parking is available in two museum lots on Lindsay and Church streets. For more information about fundraising efforts, call Director Fred Goss at (336) 373-2306.
