Statement by Wesley Reid, Director, Guilford Metro 9-1-1, On the Arrest of 9-1-1 Dispatcher Shannon Crawley
“Guilford Metro 9-1-1 would like to confirm the arrest by the Durham Police Department of Shannon Crawley on January 9 in connection with the murder of Denita Smith. Crawley, 27, was suspended from her position with Guilford Metro 9-1-1 on January 6 after being named a ‘person of interest’ in the case. Guilford Metro 9-1-1 employees are saddened by this announcement since most of our employees are like extended family members. Peer counselors will be made available to 9-1-1 staff. I extend my deepest sympathies to both the Smith and Crawley families.
“Guilford Metro 9-1-1 appreciates the many calls of support from statewide 911 agencies and wants to assure the public of our continued commitment to provide outstanding 911 service to Greensboro and Guilford County residents.
“Guilford Metro 9-1-1 has been cooperating with Durham Police investigators and cannot provide any additional information at this time. All press inquiries into this case should be directed to the Durham Police Department at (919) 560-4440 or Durham Crime Stoppers at (919) 683-1200.”
