Fire Department to Hold Mock Rescue with GDOT

GREENSBORO -- Members of Greensboro Fire Department Station 5 will participate in mock rescue drills in underground traffic signal vaults, along with personnel from the Greensboro Department of Transportation (GDOT), from Tuesday, January 23 through Thursday, January 25, 9:30 am until 12 noon, at the intersection of Holden Road and Market Street.

Traffic signal vaults are typically located 20 feet underground and require maintenance approximately twice per year. GDOT personnel make repairs to traffic signals through these vaults.
Heavy rescue training is an important part of maintaining the Department’s Task Force Rescue Teams.

The Greensboro Fire Department maintains High Level, Structural Collapse, Hazardous Materials, Urban Search and Rescue, Confined Space and Swift Water Rescue teams. The Department also responds on a State level as a Regional Response Team and Technical Rescue Team.

Media opportunities should be coordinated through Captain Jim Robinson at 430-6042.
