GREENSBORO -- The Greensboro Coliseum Complex has announced it will host the Miami Heat vs. Charlotte Bobcats in NBA preseason action on Saturday, October 13 at 7:30 pm. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, April 14 at 10 am. Tickets may be purchased at the Coliseum box office, at Tickets.com outlets at participating Triad area Lowes Food locations, online at www.tickets.com and by calling Tickets.com toll free at 888-397-3100. Ticket prices start at $10.
A special “Family Four Pack” ticket package (four tickets, four hot dogs and four small drinks for $40) is also available in select sections (Family Four Packs are available at the Coliseum box office only).
The game will mark the Bobcats' first ever game in Greensboro and the first NBA preseason game at Greensboro Coliseum since 2002 (Washington Wizards vs. New Orleans Hornets).
“We are excited to be bringing the Charlotte Bobcats to Greensboro, one of our key markets,” Fred Whitfield, President and Chief Operating Officer said. “In our ongoing efforts to reach all of our fans, we feel it is important to not only connect with the city of Charlotte, but throughout the Carolinas as well.”
The Bobcats posted the all-time best record in recent expansion history for a third year franchise after defeating Miami 111-103 in overtime on April 8th for their 31st win of the season. The Orlando Magic posted a 31-51 record during their second season (1990-91) and no expansion team has won more than 27 games in their third season, until the Bobcats surpassed that mark on March 28 against Atlanta. Charlotte has a talented young nucleus of players including the 2004-05 NBA Rookie of the Year Emeka Okafor, 2005 Co-National College Player of the Year Adam Morrison and one of the NBA’s most versatile forwards, Gerald Wallace.
The Bobcats also have a pair of former University of North Carolina Tar Heels, Sean May and Raymond Felton, who will return to Greensboro for the first time since competing in the 2004 ACC Tournament.
The current defending NBA champions, the Heat are led by superstars Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade. One of the most dominant centers in history, O’ Neal is a 14-time NBA All-Star and was named the 1999-00 NBA MVP. He has earned championships with Heat and Los Angeles Lakers and has garnered NBA Finals MVP honors on three occasions (2000, 2001 and 2002). In 1996, he was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history by the league, becoming the youngest player to earn the honor. A three-time NBA all-star, Wade was the NBA Finals MVP a year ago while leading Miami to its first ever championship.
