Greensboro Beautiful Announces 2007 Neighborhood Initiative Grant Recipients

GREENSBORO -- Greensboro Beautiful recently approved two grants through its Neighborhood Initiative Grants Program.  Funding is being awarded to:

  • Charles B. Aycock Historic Neighborhood ($1,000) for the Yanceyville Street Median Beautification Project
  • Fisher Park Neighborhood Association ($1,000) to plant Pin Oak Street Trees at the intersection of Parkway/Bessemer/Eugene streets

The Neighborhood Initiative Grants Program encourages and assists neighborhoods and citizen groups in Greensboro to initiate beautification and ecological projects that enhance and restore city or public property, such as neighborhood parks, medians, stream banks, nature trails, open spaces, etc. The funds are meant to help initiate an idea that will set a trend, enhance community spirit, and/or establish new standards of quality and excellence in the neighborhood setting.

The program is also designed to give greater scope to innovative ideas, and to help the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department and citizen groups undertake an activity they would not be able to consider without special funding. Through this program, projects or sites can be established and grow without additional funding from Greensboro Beautiful.

This program is made possible by private contributions to Greensboro Beautiful, Inc., a volunteer organization, working in partnership with the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department.
Neighborhood associations, civic groups and clubs are encouraged to apply for funding assistance. Applications are available from Greensboro Beautiful and are due each year by February 1.
