Police Chief Tim Bellamy Announces Selection of Assistant Chiefs
GREENSBORO – Keeping his promise to fill the top vacancies in the Police Department by April 18, Chief Tim Bellamy announced the selection of four Assistant Chiefs to help lead the department.
Harold Scott was selected as the Patrol Bureau Assistant Chief, Dwight Crotts was selected as Investigative Bureau Assistant Chief, Ronald Rogers was selected as Support Bureau Assistant Chief, and Martha Kelly was selected as Management Bureau Assistant Chief. All four were promoted from within the department.
Harold Scott has served with the department since 1981. He rose through the ranks and has served as a Captain since 2003. As Assistant Chief of the Patrol Bureau, he will oversee the Eastern, Central, Southern, and Western divisions as well as the Watch commanders.
Dwight Crotts joined the department in 1989 and became a Captain in 2002. As Assistant Chief of the Investigative Bureau, he will oversee the Criminal Investigation, Vice/Narcotics, and Investigative Support divisions.
Ronald Rogers joined the GPD in 1984 and has served as an Acting Assistant Chief since November 2006. As Assistant Chief of the Support Bureau, he will oversee the Operational Support, Special Operations, and Forensic Services divisions.
Martha Kelly joined the GPD in 1978 and became a Captain in 2002. As Assistant Chief of the Management Bureau, she will oversee the Training, Information/Technology, and Resource Management divisions.
Nine applicants applied for the four positions, and a five-part selection process was used. Each applicant submitted a resume to enter the process, had a peer review, participated in a panel interview with two Human Resources staff and two retired Greensboro police officers, and had a one-on-one interview with Chief Bellamy. The panel and the Chief then discussed the results and made the final selections.
Chief Bellamy said he has full confidence in the new Assistant Chiefs and is excited about moving the department forward with a full command staff.
“I am confident that the individuals selected through this process demonstrate the skills, talent, knowledge and professionalism it takes to be a part of the Senior Command Staff for the Greensboro Police Department,” he said.
The new Assistant Chiefs will officially begin their duties on Monday, April 23. Chief Bellamy hopes to fill the vacancies created by these promotions by the end of this week.
