City of Greensboro and Guilford County Update Water and Sewer Agreement
GREENSBORO – Greensboro City Council and the Guilford County Commissioners have approved changes to their joint water and sewer agreement. The agreement guides how water and sewer services are extended to areas outside of Greensboro. The changes were made to update the 30-year old agreement, ensure it fits with other City and County policies, and provide water and sewer service to a larger area to encourage economic growth.
The new agreement was jointly developed by the City and County and requires that both review requests for new water and sewer service outside the City limits. The agreement is designed to encourage development close to the City limits with three graduated fees based on the availability of water and sewer service. Applicants for City water and sewer service must agree:
- to be annexed into Greensboro at a future date
- to meet City development and plan requirements
- to have water and sewer lines constructed to all City standards
Some City and County revenues from water and sewer extensions and service in this area will go into the joint fund kept by the County for further extensions.
Revisions will go into effect on July 1.
