Downtown Parking Rates to Increase
Beginning July 1, one hour meters will increase from 25 cents to 50 cents

GREENSBORO – Beginning July 1, downtown parking meter rates will increase from 25 cents per hour to 50 cents per hour. The increase is part of a larger effort to meet the changing parking needs of downtown Greensboro by encouraging drivers to use metered parking for short-term visits and downtown parking decks and lots for long-term needs.

Rates for downtown parking meters have not increased since 1969. The current rate of 25 cents for 15-minute and 30-minute meters will remain the same, as well as the $5 fine for parking violations.
Greensboro Parking Operations Manager Robin Davenport says that the increase is meant to encourage both short- and long-term visits to downtown.

“The increase will hopefully keep on-street parking available for downtown merchants’ customers and encourage long-term visitors, employees, and business owners to move to the parking decks where the first hour of parking is free and the cost is .50 cents for each additional hour,” she said.
