Greensboro Beautiful Seeks Award Nominees

GREENSBORO – Greensboro Beautiful is seeking nominations for its prestigious annual awards. The non-profit, all volunteer organization works in partnership with the Greensboro Parks and  Recreation Department. Its mission is to conserve and enhance the beauty and ecology of the  community through public and private cooperation.

Each year, Greensboro Beautiful recognizes individuals, organizations, community efforts, businesses, garden clubs, and schools for outstanding projects and programs that exemplify the organization’s mission. The awards will be presented at  Greensboro Beautiful’s Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner on Tuesday evening, August 28, at The Painted Plate.

Greensboro Beautiful is asking the community to help find the most deserving recipients for these awards, which include the following:

  • Volunteer Service Award ~ Outstanding individual achieving in volunteerism in the community in keeping with Greensboro Beautiful’s mission.
  • Anne Boyd Environmental Award ~ An individual, organization, or club effort that has had a positive impact on our community’s  environment.
  • Outstanding Single Project ~ A significant environmental or beautification project in the community.
  • Robert L. Garrard Award of Distinction ~ The highest honor awarded by Greensboro Beautiful to an individual, organization or effort, which has exhibited long-term vision and positive impact on our community’s quality of life.
  • Community Landscape Award ~ Outstanding landscape installation and continued maintenance.
  • Outstanding Garden Club Project ~ Awarded to an individual garden club for excellence in community beautification, public environmental education or awareness. 
  • Youth Service Award ~ Recognizing outstanding service to our community’s appearance and environment.
  • School Award ~ An individual school (public or private) that has exhibited year-round excellence in environmental education and campus  beautification.
  • Neighborhood Service Award ~ Recognizing individual achievement in bringing Greensboro Beautiful’s mission to the neighborhood level. 

If you would like to submit a nomination for any of these awards, or for more information, call the Greensboro Beautiful office at 373-2199. The time frame for the awards is August 1, 2006 to July 31, 2007.  Deadline for nominations is July 15.
