Water Service Restored Following Water Line Rupture on Wendover Avenue

GREENSBORO -- Greensboro’s Department of Water Resources was able to restore water service to about 50 homes and 40 apartments by shortly after 3 pm today. Water service was interrupted at around 3 am when a 12 inch water line burst under Wendover Avenue. The water line is a 12-inch cast iron pipe running under the eastbound lanes of Wendover Avenue, carrying between 1,000 and 2,000 gallons of water per minute.

Work on repairing Wendover will continue 24 hours a day until completed. Crews from the NC Department of Transportation and the City's Department of Transportation and Field Operations Department will be working to stabilize soil around the water line and make repairs as necessary to the surface.

Wendover Avenue eastbound is open from Cridland for traffic associated with medical offices and businesses. Drivers may cross Wendover at all intersections east of Cridland.

The work is expected to take several days. Please follow detour signs and drive carefully in this and all work zones. For more information, contact Jim Collins, Public Affairs, at 412-6311.
