Limited HEAT Service to Begin on August 8
Other HEAT routes to start by August 16

GREENSBORO – Higher Education Area Transit (HEAT) will begin the second year of public transportation service on Wednesday, August 8 with limited service. Only UNCG HEAT Route 73 will operate, connecting UNCG with off-campus housing in the vicinity of Spring Garden Street and Walker Avenue. New this year, UNCG HEAT Route 73 service has been extended as far west as Park Terrace to serve additional student housing in the area, and A&T HEAT Route 75 offering parallel service for the North Carolina A&T area.

Friday, August 10 marks the start of HEAT Routes 70, 71, 72 and 75. Tech HEAT Route 74 will begin serving the GTCC Jamestown location on Monday, August 13 with non-stop service. Added to the service package is A&T HEAT Route 75 which will circulate among the off-campus housing in the vicinity of North Carolina A&T State University as well as the commercial shopping district on Bessemer and Summit Avenues. Evening/weekend HEAT route 70/71 will begin on August 16.

Due to the number of students gradually returning to their respective schools over the next two weeks, bus frequencies may be reduced until Monday, August 20 when full service will be in effect.

Based on feedback from the first year, routes and stops system wide have been modified for rider use. Updated HEAT route maps and schedules are available on the college campuses, at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot and at the Greensboro Transit Authority offices. Downloadable schedules will be available soon at www.rideheat.com.

As during year one, qualified students from participating schools can ride any HEAT or GTA bus fare-free using either their student identification card (Greensboro College, Guilford College, NCA&T, UNCG) or a school-issued HEAT fare card (Bennett College, Elon University School of Law, GTCC). HEAT is available for all other riders at the same fare as GTA -- $1.10 per trip with free transfers. Four new buses have been acquired by GTA for HEAT use and are in the process of being “wrapped” in the familiar HEAT color scheme and prepared for service.
