GPD Sergeant Arrested, Charged with Embezzlement

GREENSBORO -- (September 10, 2007) -- Greensboro Police have made an arrest in an ongoing financial crime investigation involving a Greensboro Police Department employee. David A. Moore, a sergeant in the Special Operations Division, was arrested today and charged with embezzlement. 

This arrest comes after an investigation by the GPD's Criminal Investigation Division. The embezzlement involves the Safety Town program. Moore is accused of embezzling approximately $21,290 from this non-profit account and converting it to his own use. Safety Town is an educational program that teaches traffic and home safety to young children. 

Moore was arrested today at 11 am at his residence near Lineberry in Randolph County by the NC State Bureau of Investigation and GPD detectives. He was placed in the Guilford County Jail under $10,000 bond.

The investigation is continuing. Moore, 45, and a 20-year veteran of the Department, has been suspended pending the outcome of this investigation. The Internal Affairs Section of the Professional Standards Division is also conducting an administrative investigation.
