Update: Three Police Officers Suspended

GREENSBORO -- (December 27, 2007) -- Per Council's decision today, we are releasing the following information.

On December 18, 2007, the Criminal Investigation Division was notified by the Internal Affairs Section of an allegation of a sexual assault that occurred sometime between 11 pm on December 14, 2007 and 1 am on December 15, 2007. The complainant is a Greensboro Police Officer who was off-duty at the time of the reported incident. The suspects are Greensboro Police Officers assigned to the Tactical Special Enforcement Team.

The victim alleges that she and a friend were leaving the area of Four Seasons Town Center when they encountered the three on-duty officers who offered to give them a ride home. The victim and her companion accepted the ride. It was during the time that they were in transit that the victim alleges the assault occurred.

The case was assigned to a detective in the Criminal Investigations Division who is currently conducting a follow up investigation.

The investigation is continuing. An administrative investigation will also be conducted by the Internal Affairs Section.
