Unique Library Events Honor Author Isabel Allende
One City, One Author Events Celebrate International Best-Seller

GREENSBORO, NC -- (October 23, 2007) -- You may not expect to see a fencing demonstration or enjoy a Chilean wine tasting when attending a Greensboro Public Library program, but that is just a sample of the events being offered to celebrate One City, One Author with Isabel Allende.

One of Latin America’s most celebrated writers, Allende will appear at the Greensboro Coliseum on November 13 at 7:30 pm. Her visit is sponsored by Guilford College’s Bryan Series.

Also, the Greensboro Public Library is offering a variety of events to celebrate Allende’s visit:

  • Presentation on Isabel Allende, Magical Realism and Emerging Latino Writers with Claudia Femenias at Central Library on October 20 at 1:30 pm
  • Book discussion of Paula at Benjamin Library on October 22 at 12 noon
  • Book discussion of The Infinite Plan at Benjamin Library on October 23 at 12 noon
  • Book discussion of Zorro at Hemphill Library on October 24 at 1:30 pm
  • Book discussion of Zorro at Hemphill Library on October 25 at 7 pm
  • Fencing demonstration and film: The Mask of Zorro, at Central Library on October 27 at 2 pm
  • Book discussion of Paula at Central Library on November 1 at 7 pm
  • Film Isabel Allende - The Women’s Voice in Latin American Literature and discussion with Claudia Femenias at Hemphill Library on November 8 at 7 pm
  • Allende Con Amor - Chilean Wine Tasting and Readers Theater featuring passages of Allende’s that focus on love. Held at Zito’s Wine & Cheese Shop, 335 Battleground Avenue on November 16 at 6 pm
  • Book discussion of The House of Spirits led by Dr. Whitney Vanderwerff at Central Library on November 17 at 3:30 pm. To be repeated November 26 at 7 pm at same location.
