City Graduates Fourth Class of Academy Participants
GREENSBORO, NC (November 28, 2007) – The City Academy class of 2007 graduated 23 individuals on November 20 in front of City Council and City staff.
The City Academy, now in its fourth year, gives participants an in-depth look at more than 17 City departments and allows students to learn how local government functions. Participants in the 11-week program represented all five council districts and many backgrounds, ages, and life experiences. With graduation behind them, the students are now prepared for service on a City board or commission.
“I joined to learn more about the different programs and how the City operates,” said participant Kimmerly Milner. “This has been a great opportunity to gain hands on experience from City staff.” As part of the graduation ceremony, the students received a signed diploma from Mayor Keith Holliday and City Manager Mitch Johnson, as well as photos from their class experiences.
“The City of Greensboro is proud of the 23 residents who completed this intensive civic program,” said Johnson. “They are great ambassadors for the City, and I look forward to their continued involvement with the City and our community.”
In addition, students voted on the department and instructor of the year during the City Academy. This year’s winners were the Greensboro Police Department for best department presentation and Fire Captain Robbie Perkins for best instructor.
