City Offices to Close in Observance of Christmas Holiday

GREENSBORO, NC – (December 17, 2007) – City of Greensboro offices will be closed on Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25 in observance of Christmas. The holiday schedule affects a number of City services: 

  • The City will not collect garbage, recycling, bulk trash, yard waste, or appliances on Tuesday, December 25. Tuesday’s garbage collection will take place Wednesday, December 26. Monday, Thursday and Friday are regular collection days. Here are a few holiday garbage and recycling tips:
    -- Christmas trees will be picked up on your regular garbage collection day; remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and wire; cut large trees into smaller, manageable segments.
    -- Do not recycle wrapping paper, bows, gift bags, ribbon, and tissue paper.
    -- Take unwanted computers, cell phones, televisions, and talking-type dolls with computer chips to the Household Hazardous Waste Center, 2750 Patterson St.
  • The Landfill and the Solid Waste Transfer Station will be closed on December 25.
  • The Greensboro Public Library and the Greensboro Historical Museum will be closed on December 24 and December 25. Regular hours resume December 26.
  • The Greensboro Transit Authority (GTA) will operate on a modified schedule. On Monday, December 24, the last bus leaves the depot at 6:30 pm. Service resumes on Wednesday, December 26. The last day of service for HEAT is today, December 17. HEAT service resumes on January 3. SCAT service ends at 6:30 pm on December 24. Service resumes on December 26.
