Water Service Restored Following Water Line Rupture on Wendover Avenue
Greensboro’s Department of Water Resources was able to restore water service to approximately 50 homes and 40 apartments by shortly after 3pm this afternoon. Water service was interrupted at approximately 3am this morning when a 12 inch water line burst under Wendover Avenue. The water line is a 12 inch cast iron pipe running under the eastbound lanes of Wendover Avenue, carrying between one and two thousand gallons of water per minute.
Work on repairing Wendover will continue 24 hours a day until completed. Crews from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Greensboro Department of Transportation and Greensboro’s Field Operations Division will be working to stabilize soil around the water line, and make repairs as necessary to the surface.
Wendover Avenue eastbound is open from Cridland for traffic associated with medical offices and businesses. Drivers may cross Wendover at all intersections east of Cridland. View map of detour.
The work is expected to take several days. Please follow detour signs and drive carefully in this and all work zones.
