City Begins Planning for Gateway Signage Residents Invited to Share Ideas During Public Meetings
GREENSBORO – (September 10, 2007) – How do you know when you’ve entered Greensboro? As communities in the Triad have grown, it has become more difficult to know when you have left one city and entered another. For this reason, the City of Greensboro’s comprehensive plan, Connections 2025, calls for the use of gateway signage to clearly mark significant entrances into the city. By using gateway signage, Greensboro can welcome guests, celebrate its unique identity and improve the visual character of public spaces and roadways.
At three upcoming community meetings, a group initiated by Action Greensboro will seek support and comments from Greensboro residents in creating gateway signage at 15 strategic locations in the city. These meetings will provide an opportunity for residents to share their thoughts about the impact these signs can have on our community. Anyone interested in helping Greensboro show its distinctive personality through gateway signage may attend any of the meetings listed below:
- Thursday, September 13, 7 to 8:30 pm – Vance H. Chavis Library, 900 S. Benbow Road (at corner of E. Lee St.)
- Monday, September 17, 7 to 8:30 pm – Hemphill Library, 2301 W. Vandalia Road (west of S. Holden Rd.)
- Thursday, September 20, 7 to 8:30 pm – Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch Library, 1420 Price Park Road
