Arrest Made in Shooting of Officer
An arrest has been made in the shooting of a Greensboro Police officer on Friday, November 23. Treymayne Dante Jackson, 22, of 1579 Lovette St. has been charged with attempted first degree murder.
At approximately 5:40 pm on November 23, two uniformed members of the Tactical Special Enforcement Team approached a suspicious person behind John’s Curb Market, at 2000 East Market St. An altercation began with the suspect and officers attempted to arrest him. The suspect then produced a handgun and fired at the officers striking one in the chest. The officers returned fire and the suspect fled on foot. One officer was transported to Moses Cone Hospital where he was treated and released. The bullet was lodged in the officer’s body armor.
Greensboro Police were assisted in the search of the area by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, which provided a helicopter for aerial searching. At approximately 2 am Saturday, November 24, a suspect who was identified as Jackson, was located at 225 Bingham St.
The identity of the officers involved in the shooting is not being released at this time. The incident will also be investigated by the Internal Affairs Section.
