Veteran’s History Project Seeks Local Stories of War Service
GREENSBORO, NC -- (October 24, 2007) -- Local veterans are invited to participate in a history project sponsored by the Library of Congress and the Veterans History Project. The project honors our nation’s war veterans and those who supported them by creating a lasting legacy of recorded interviews, memoirs and other documents chronicling wartime experiences. Area veterans can participate by sharing their stories with interviewers at the Greensboro Central Library on Saturday, November 10 from 9 am to 3 pm. If you are a veteran or civilian worker who served in World War I or II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf, Iraq or other conflicts, record your wartime experiences.
Audio and video recordings of interviews, photographs, letters and any other historical documents will be preserved for future generations through this project. To date, the Veterans History Project has accumulated over 55,000 submissions. “This is an extraordinary opportunity for all veterans to tell their stories in their own voice, and let the world know of their contributions, sacrifices, and courage," said Lamar DeLoatch, president of the African American Heritage Genealogical Society and a Vietnam Veteran.
