Local Governments Team Up to Launch New Water Conservation Campaign
City of Greensboro and Guilford County Urge Residents to “Conserve Water Now.”
GREENSBORO, NC (October 8, 2007) – The City of Greensboro, in collaboration with Guilford County, today announced a new water conservation campaign aimed at inspiring city and county residents to save water as the extreme drought continues. The campaign, called “Conserve water now,” will launch on broadcast, online and print media the week of October 8, followed by a billboard campaign beginning October 15.
“Water conservation is the most cost-effective and environmentally sound way to reduce our demand for water,” said City Manager Mitch Johnson. “Conserving water stretches our supplies, reduces energy costs and strain on the environment, and helps us meet future need. This joint effort by the City and County encourages residents to be mindful of how much water they’re using on a daily basis. This kind of awareness, when coupled with conservation strategies, will ultimately contribute to better health and safety of our communities.”
County Manager David McNeill echoed Johnson’s sentiments. “Water conservation is a community effort as we’re all in this together,” he said. “By working with the City to get this important message out, it is our hope that water consumption will be reduced, but more importantly, a positive change in attitude around water conservation and our environment will occur.”
The new campaign is comprised of various elements and includes a print, online, and television advertising campaign; billboard advertising at strategic locations around Greensboro; in-elevator advertising; grassroots advertising; and an online portal which provides water conservation tips.
The entire ad campaign’s creative direction and development were done in-house by the City of Greensboro’s Public Affairs Department. Fairway Outdoor Advertising contributed five billboards at no cost to the City.
