GYC Students Receive Presidential Volunteer Service Awards

GREENSBORO, NC -- (January 8, 2008) -- Ten Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) volunteers have been honored with Presidential Volunteer Service Awards, which are designed to "express thanks and honor Americans who, through demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service."

There are four levels of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award: bronze, silver, gold, and call to service. The following students received a Gold Award:

  • Brian Clark
  • Kanisha Cunningham
  • Whitney Evans
  • Ashley Gilmer      
  • Abhishek Pratap
  • Brandon Prince     
  • Nick Remmey
  • Anika Rich
  • Novia Stevenson

These students have given more than 250 hours back to the community through GYC, a volunteer organization for high school students in Guilford County that teaches leadership, responsibility, parliamentary procedure, and the importance of being involved in the community. GYC is a program of the City of Greensboro's Parks and Recreation Department.

The award winners received a personalized certificate of achievement and a congratulatory letter from President Bush.
