City Crews Prepare for Possible Winter Precipitation
GREENSBORO, NC -- (January 16, 2008) -- With a winter storm warning calling for frozen precipitation after midnight tonight, City crews are working to prepare Greensboro’s streets and roads.
Field Operations crews began spraying salt brine on bridges and overpasses early this morning. Today, crews are loading about 300 tons of salt in trucks, and checking the 45 trucks, spreaders, and plows that will be used to fight the storm.
Full crews of 50 employees will report to work at midnight tonight. At the first sign of accumulation on the roads, the crews will begin salting assigned routes. Main thoroughfares and heavily traveled streets will be the first to be treated. When those are finished, secondary roads will be treated. Crews will work 12-hour shifts until any precipitation ends.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution, especially when traveling on bridges and overpasses.
