 Water Festival Teaches Children About the Importance of Water

GREENSBORO, NC -- (April 9, 2008) -- The City of Greensboro Water Resources Department and the Parks and Recreation Department will host area fifth graders as part of the seventh annual “Water Festival” on Wednesday, April 9 from 9 am to 1 pm at Bryan Park / Townsend Water Treatment Plant, 6275 Bryan Park Road in Browns Summit. More than 300 local students will have the opportunity to participate in eight fun and exciting hands-on water activities that support the fifth grade curriculum.

Presenters at the festival represent the City of Greensboro Water Resources, Field Operations and Parks and Recreations Departments, Guilford Soil and Water Conservation District, N.C. Wildlife Commission, and N.C. Cooperative Extension Service. Activities will cover a variety of topics including the city’s water distribution system, water cycle, water conservation, aquatics, water treatment chemicals, and pollution prevention. In addition, student teachers from UNCG will gain valuable teaching skills by giving scheduled demonstrations and serving as group leaders and presenters.
