Number of City Employees Affected by RIF a Moving Target
GREENSBORO, NC – April 16, 2008 – City staff yesterday announced elimination of 49 positions from the budget for Fiscal Year 2008-2009.
While some of these positions are occupied, the City’s Reduction in Force policy and City past practices, ensure that employees in positions identified to be cut are considered for vacancies in positions that are not being cut. The City has a large number of such vacancies created by the extended hiring freeze. While there is no guarantee that all affected employees will be placed in other jobs, since the original list was created on Monday, April 14, a number of employees have already been placed. This means that the number of employees to be “RIFed” is a moving target.
On Monday, the number was 26; by Tuesday morning when Council documents were being prepared, the number was 19; by the end of the day, the latest update showed it had dropped to 15. This number will continue to change between now and June 30 as every effort is made to place identified employees in appropriate vacancies. (View the list of positions being eliminated.)
