Gateway Gardens Receives $500,000 Grant from Parks & Recreation Trust Fund
GREENSBORO, NC -- (May 20, 2008) – On May 16, the Parks & Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) Authority announced that Greensboro’s Gateway Gardens will receive a $500,000 grant for construction of Phase 1. Gateway Gardens is being developed by Greensboro Beautiful, Inc. in partnership with the City of Greensboro, and is the fourth public garden to be initiated through this 40-year old nonprofit, volunteer organization.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for us, and will provide much needed funding to move the Gateway Gardens project forward,” said Bonnie Kuester, Director of the Greensboro Parks & Recreation Department. Over $27 million in requests were received with only $12 million available for projects throughout the state of North Carolina.
The grant brings the Gateway Gardens Campaign total to nearly $3,680,000 in gifts and pledges raised to date towards a goal of $5 million. Contributions are still needed to reach this goal, and naming opportunities are available.
