Police to Close Roads for Fourth of July Festivities

GREENSBORO, NC – (July 3, 2008) – Greensboro Police have begun closing some downtown streets in preparation for tonight’s Fun Third Block Party and tomorrow’s Fun Fourth Festival. By 2 pm today, the portions of Lindsay Street, Summit Avenue and Church Street that form a triangle around the Central Library, Historical Museum and YWCA will be closed.

At 7 pm, Police will close the following roads in preparation for tomorrow’s festival:
    • Elm Street, from Lindsay Street to Market Street
    • Friendly Avenue, from Greene Street to Church Street
    • Davie Street, from Market Street to Summit Avenue
    • Lindsay Street, from Elm Street to Church Street
    • Church Street, from Summit Avenue to Lindsay Street

In addition, Police will close streets along the Fun Fourth parade route beginning at 7 am tomorrow. The parade begins at 9:30 am on Greene Street at the intersection of Smith Street, and continues along Market Street, Church Street and Lindsay Street. The parade route should be reopened by 10:30 am.

Police also warn that drivers should expect heavy traffic around Grimsley High School on Friday night before and after the fireworks display. The stadium opens at 6 pm and fireworks are set to begin at 9:30 pm.
