Update on Officer Involved Shooting

GREENSBORO, NC -- (April 21, 2008) --  On April 19, 2008 at approximately 5:45 am, Officer CM Schultheis initiated a traffic stop on Eastwood Avenue near Bothwell Street. A confrontation occurred between the driver of the vehicle and Officer Schultheis, during which the driver was fatally wounded.

The driver has been identified as James Paschal Jr. At the time of the incident, Paschal was wanted on outstanding warrants for assault on a female, injury to personal property, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Officer Schultheis joined the Greensboro Police Department on May 16, 1998. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Bureau and his salary is $46,899.

Pursuant to normal protocol, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating this incident. An internal investigation will also be conducted by the Division of Professional Standards.
